Green Bay

It’s Saturday and we heard that this would be a great day to take a day trip to Green Bay. It’s a 30 mile trip from our RV site in Two Rivers to the downtown Farmers Market. We didn’t know what to really expect as their website didn’t give a real feel for the size. As we drove in we saw there was a whole lot of people and parking was a mess. The challenge was it’s so big, where do we start? There was several blocked-off streets and probably over 200 vendors. Half of the vendors were farm products and the other half were crafts. There were plenty of food & beer trucks along with live music. All this before lunch!

Next we ventured out a few blocks into the town to get our bearings  and as luck would have it we stumbled upon Titletown Brewery.  Out front of the brewery stands a statue of Donald Driver catching a football that is about 25 feet tall. They love their Packers here. We settled down at the bar near the corner and I had a very nice flight of their most popular beers.

For our last stop in the Green Bay, we took full advantage of a perfectly clear and 70F afternoon by driving over to Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary.  This  600 acre urban wildlife refuge  features live animal exhibits, educational displays and miles of hiking trails.

This park is free and has several great trails which took us along an animal exhibit, waterfowl habitat exhibit, white-tailed deer habitat exhibit, outdoor exhibits for Otter, Bobcat, Mountain Lion and Fox.

Although it is sad to see such magnificent wild animals in captivity places like this are needed. Most of these animals are ones that have been wounded and saved but unable to be returned to the wild. So it is a sad yet happy kind of place, if you know what I mean…

We left the sanctuary and we decided to drive over to Bay Beach Park so we could gaze out over the great Lake Michigan. What we didn’t know is that it also houses Bay Beach Amusement Park. The park has all kinds of rides including a roller coaster and of course with rides there were thousands of children so we did not linger…

In the mornings, with cooler temperatures and a nice refreshing breeze off the lake, I take a long bug free walk on Mariners Trail along Lake Michigan.  As you can see from the photo above it is 68 degrees but it got down to 55 last night and I am a happy camper with that.  Think I’ll go put a sweater on:))
