Chattanooga

Turned out to be a great driving day.  Traffic down to Chattanooga was surprisingly light.  Good roads, super scenery and everything went off without a hitch.  Couldn’t believe how good I was feeling, it must be “living the dream” mentality.  Figured I had better take advantage of that so we kept the hammer down and put some miles behind us.  Just sat back and enjoyed the scenery.  Especially liked the long sweeping hills of Tennessee.  Big white puffy clouds stacked atop each other against a blue sky made it a nice day.  And then there was the heat and humidity.

Getting a better view from Lookout Mountain of Chattanooga

The first place that we wanted to explore was Lookout Mountain. You can’t miss it. It towers over Chattanooga. There is a marker on top that claims that seven states can be seen from this point, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. For us, the view of Chattanooga was about all we got. The humidity haze was not our friend. A surprise to us was all the residential elite homes that took up the mountain top. The view they have, priceless!

After wowing all the beautiful homes, Denise had researched places to visit and our first stop was Rock City.

The trail wander’s through natural features composed mostly of giant boulders, through a gnome field, over a couple of pretty cool bridges, a fantastic viewing area and finished in a black-light fairy tale area.

The path where they have you going through rocks that are probably 25 ft. high on both sides with a walking space that you might have to walk sideways a few feet to get through due to the rock formation.

After a nice afternoon at Rock City, we explored the newly revitalized Chattanooga downtown and found it to be a nice walking downtown. Denise quickly scoped out the Tennessee Riverwalk trail that followed the Tennessee River around Chattanooga and we landed on the longest pedestrian bridge in the WORLD, Walnut St. Bridge.

It was time to cool off and we found Champys with a great fun feel and a very good AC.

As we were traveling down Interstate 75 on the way in, the barns along the way had painted roofs “RUBY FALLS”.

We descended 26-stories by elevator and explore the scenic cavern path on a guided tour to the breathtaking waterfall – 1,120 feet underground!
