St. Marys, Georgia

Life is Good!

On travel days we are usually up early and on the road but not so much this morning.  We are only 34 miles to where we want to be so there’s no big hurry to go rushing off to our next destination.  Good weather was in store for us as we travel to St. Marys, Georgia, just a few miles above the Georgia/Florida border.  St. Marys is home to Kings Bay Naval Trident Submarine Base. This installation is the homeport of five Ohio-Class TRIDENT submarines and two guided missile submarines. The historic downtown area is quite quaint with a submarine museum, many restaurants, galleries, antique shops, waterfront park and it is also the gateway to Cumberland Island National Seashore.

I sure am enjoying the warmer nights and mornings and it wasn’t until we reached St. Marys area that temperatures were such to make that possible.  We have nice morning hikes around the state park.  In the mornings we started off with a jacket on and we had to peel those jackets off before we got back to the RV.  By 10:30 the sun was already hot but luckily the air was still cool enough to save the day.  If it gets too hot on the sunny side of the RV just walk around to the shady side.  It’s kinda like going from summer to winter in just a few seconds.

I am always amazed at how small a world we live in.  Just 4 campsites away is our Lynchburg neighbors from right across our street. They have been on the road for a while with their travel trailer and we all landed in the same state park in south Georgia at the same time…how coincidental.
