July 4th Celebration-A Hero of Freedom
Many parts of this world can not celebrate a freedom day like us. When I look at all our national holidays, as a Viet Nam veteran, July 4th has a deep meaning for me…..Freedom is very precious…..As I listen to my local parish priest from Viet Nam talk about his time as a political prisoner in prison, sentence to refugee camps and being separated from his family and deported, freedom is not for-granted. Kyle Carpenter, a Medal of Honor recipient, visited our little town of Sylva to share his patronism and heroism.
“FOX Sports shot a segment in Sylva NC honoring a Medal of Honor recipient. The network put together a sports feature called “Ragged Old Flag” that aired just before the National Anthem at the 2020 Super Bowl. Carpenter served with valor in Afghanistan in 2010.”
“He jumped on a grenade for a fellow Marine and that’s the highest ultimate sacrifice that any one of us could ever make.“
Carpenter’s face was severely injured. He suffered multiple shrapnel wounds, and the loss of his right eye. His patriotism and heroism is depicted in the video, the network choose Sylva as a backdrop.

The producers shot at Mark Watson park called “Freedom Park,” housing replicas of America’s foundation documents.
