First Landing @ Virginia Beach

It was time for us to spend some time R&Ring. It’s been since spring. We decided to take a couple of weeks visiting the Virginia and North Carolina beaches.  Our first stop is First Landing State Park at Virginia Beach. This is our first visit to this park and it is the most visited state park in Virginia.  We are anticipating a great visit.

We took the high road into Virginia Beach. In other words, we took the interstate. I wanted to get into our campsite before dark since we were leaving Lynchburg late at around 2:30pm.  The GPS indicates it’s 235 miles to our destination. Sunset is 7:30. It’s going to be close.

The flashing signs as we approached the I-64 tunnel into Virginia Beach “Crash-East Bound lanes blocked“. We found an alternate route and we arrived at the park just as it was turning dark. The gate was unmanned with a sign saying “find a spot and check-in in the morning“. We decided to just spend the night in the parking lot and take care of getting a spot tomorrow. The parking lot was right next to the beach, it was a nice overnight spot.

Our campsite had great access to the beach. Sunsets to the left, sunrises to the right. Perfect beach location.

The ranger at the trail center plotted a 10 mile hike for me. I took the wrong turn a couple of time but got it done in 4 hours.

Our campsite was a little tight with overhead tree limbs. Denise did a great job of guiding me into our spot.

I can see why this state park is the most visited in the state.  It has the beaches, hiking, biking, sunsets and sunrises. We would definitely come back here again.  We like the H loop campsites, it’s remote, easy access to the beach and it can accommodate our size of RV.
