Sedona Az

After a month stay in Desert Hot Springs California visiting family, we traveled to Sedona Arizona. We have heard from friends to visit Sedona in early spring to get the best of our visit. So we planned for this trip many months ago. Not knowing what to expect, we came with a very casual approach, thinking its another stop along our journey. Wow! Were we surprised! The surrounding Verde Valley is filled with Red Rock buttes and spectacular rock formations. The scenic view was just awesome.

This area is rich with outdoor adventure, from 100’s of hiking trails to ancient heritage sites.

We visited Palatki National Monument. A ancient heritage site of Cliff dwellings dating back to 1100 AD and rock paintings from 10,000 years ago. This historical site gave us up close viewing , something that we have never encounter before. The 7.5 mile unpaved road leads to the site. We had 11:45 reservations and it took us 2 hours to get there from our RV site. The site is in the middle of no where and has limited access. Reservations are required allowing park rangers to guide and provide a narrative visit through the fragile site.

Native peoples started living in the region about 2000 years ago. More than a million gallons of water a day flow continuously from this well allowing for farming by the Native people. Cliff dwellings are still present along the wells wall.(Montezuma Well)
