Snow, Vintage Route 66, Petroglyph

Our time had come for us to leave Dallas. We packed up the RV and headed north to Oklahoma City. We wanted to trace some of the legendary Route 66 as we head west. We found a nice city RV Park in El Reno, just a few miles west of OKC. Route 66 ran through El Reno. There are road signs that tell you that this is the historical Route 66 but any resemblance of that era is gone.

We have been watching the weather. There is a winter blast coming down from Canada with snow. We decided (easy decision) to leave El Reno and drive 500 miles to Albuquerque where the temperature and climate is more to our liking before the blast hits Oklahoma and north Texas tomorrow. It was 9% humidity, 78 degF and clear blue skies when we arrived. Yes, I think we will enjoy our time here.

We are staying at Enchanted Trails Camping Resort just west of Albuquerque. It is a throw-back into the 50’s on historic Route 66. The campground was once a trading post back in the 40’s. Several movies were film here using the vintage cars and travel trailers scattered throughout the resort.

Yesterday, we hiked into the Petroglyph National Monument Preserve. With over 400 petroglyphs along the trail, we had a blast checking out all of the art works on the rocks and trying to figure out what they might have been drawing.
