Russellville, Arkansas

It was time to leave home and enjoy some spring beauty as we travel towards the mid-west along I-40. Our first big stop after leaving Virginia is Russellville, Arkansas.  Russellville has a population of about 26,000 people and home to Arkansas Tech. We landed at Old Post Road COE (Corp of Engineers) park located at the Dardanelle Dam on the Arkansas River. This is probably one of the best kept RV site that we have had.  We are right on the banks of the river and there is ship traffic to watch. The best part, since it is a part of the National Park System, my National Park Senior discount is half price. So a total of $10/night.

This stop was focused on getting past a busy Easter holiday weekend. But the town has everything you would need and it’s clean with some very nice older homes. In fact it’s hard to keep your eyes on the road while driving around. Some of the architecture is really fun to look at.

Heading for the lock at the dam
Entering the lock. Raising to Dardanelle Lake.

This area of the Ozarks brings back many memories for me. I went to high school a few miles down the road at Subiaco Academy. One of my most memorable time was learning to water ski on Dardanelle Lake. It gave me the most aching pain on my back. Of course that didn’t stop me from my desire to ski on!

Where did we Stay?
