Bristol Va. Wet Camping

July has so far been a rainy and hot month. The forecast for this weekend is perfect for a trip. We have been planning to visit our daughter and her family for awhile.  We left home under perfect condition and the 200 mile drive to Bristol Va was uneventful except for I-81 traffic which was terrible.

We arrived at Sugar Hollow city Park campground around noon.  This is the second time we have stayed at this park.  I would say that a motorhome like ours is the max size.  The roads are narrow and the turns are sharp but the campground is great. There are many hiking and biking trails which makes of a great experience.

We had company for the first night.  Will and the girls, Sarah-Bel and Mariam camp out in  a tent next to us. Bear stories didn’t bother them. Nor did the noisy insects. This is their first campout ever for the kids and they were excited.

The night wasn’t without excitement.  As I mentioned, the forecast was for clear skies and mild temperatures.  Around midnight, it rained.  And it rained, and it rained most of the night.  Our campers endured.  The tent did not have a rain shield but just a mesh for air flow.  The rain pound on them all night.  They just pull the blankets over their heads.  Wow.  I would have been in the car driving to my home and sleeping in my dry bed.

I like this area.  It is rich in local cultural arts, many biking trails, great fishing and scenic travels.  When I fully retire, we plan to spend some time to explore this area. Of course there is family to visit.
